A Case of Guillain Barre syndrome following Primary Varicella Infection
Abstract
Neurological complications are expected in the recovery phase of Varicella. This includes,
Aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, granulomatous angiitis with contralateral hemiplegia, cerebellitis,
Transverse myelitis and rarely Guillain Barre Syndrome. In our case, a 32 years old female presented
with flaccid quadriparesis, lower cranial nerves palsies and areflexia of all 4 limbs. She had recent
history of varicella. Nerve conduction study and CSF analysis confimed it as a case of GBS that
followed varicella. She was given IVIG of 20 gmsday for five days. She had recovered completely.
We report this case as a rare presentation of GBS following Varicella.
