A Case of Non Seminatous Germ Cell tumour of the Testes with Very Late Relapse

SUMANT GUPTA

Abstract

Non seminomatous germ cell tumors are known to have excellent response to modern
cisplatin-based chemotherapy and or appropriate surgery, early-stage testicular cancer has a cure
rate of 95 to 100 percent, whereas advanced disease has a 70 percent cure rate. However, up to 10
percent of patients who achieve a disease-free status with initial chemotherapy will eventually
relapse, with majority of them relapsing within first 2 years of completion of treatment. Late relapses,
after 2 years are seen with Seminoma but late relapse with NSGCT are relatively rare, with relapse
rates ranging from 1-6 percent described in literature. We are reporting a very late relapse of NSGCT,
after eighteen years of treatment.
