Respiration is an important task, since it costs life. Incentive spirometers also known as sustained maximal inspiration devices, are used to promote deep breathing. This present study analyzed the effectiveness of Incentive Spirometry on respiratory status among post operative patients subjected to major abdominal surgery. The objective of the study was 1.To assess the pre test respiratory status of the post operative patients. 2.To assess the post test respiratory status of the post operative patients. 3. To evaluate the effectiveness of Incentive Spirometry on respiratory status on post operative patients. 3.To find out the association between respiratory status and their demographic variables. True experimental design was adopted & 60 samples were selected by simple random technique at Billroth Hospitals. The level of respiratory status was assessed by using incentive spirometry among abdominal post operative patients at ICU & Post Operative Wards. The major findings of the study shows that, the post test level of respiratory status was maximum of 73.33% had good score and 26.67% had excellent score in experimental group. The study concluded that the incentive spirometry was found to be effective & there was a significant difference in the respiratory status among post operative patients . There was no significant relationship found between the post test respiratory status with selected demographic variables.

2017-07-31T16:07:05+0530Copyright (c) 2017 Dr. C.susila., G.Dhanalakshmi, R.Revathy sekaranhttp://ejournal-tnmgrmu.ac.in/index.php/UJNS/article/view/3940RISK FACTORS OF POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION AMONG THE POSTNATAL MOTHERS2017-07-31T16:07:05+0530PRIYA Ssivpriya2007@gmail.comLATHA VENKATESANlatha6901@yahoo.comVIJAYALAKSHMI Kk.vijayalakshmi2000@gmail.com

Depression is a major public health problem that is twice as common in women as men during the childbearing years. A case control study was conducted to assess the risk factors of postpartum depression among the postnatal mothers in the selected corporation health centers at Chennai. Research Methodology: A retrospective case control study was conducted at a corporation health center in Saidapet, Chennai with the Sample size of 256 using purposive sampling technique. Tools such as a validated Tamil version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Checklist of obstetrical risk factors and psychosocial risk factors were used to collect the data. Results: Findings revealed that among 256 postnatal mothers, 23% of the mothers were depressed (cases) and, 18% were in the borderline depression (controls) and 59% had no postpartum depression (controls). Among demographic risk factors of Postpartum Depression, illiteracy was found to be the significant risk factor. None of the obstetrical variables were found to be the significant risk factors of postpartum depression. Psychosocial factors such as history of Depression, anxiety, psychosis during this pregnancy, unhappy married life, history of major life events in the last one year, financial difficulties, Problems with in laws, lack of Support from the husband and others were found to be the significant risk factors of postpartum depression. Conclusion: Since the prevalence of the postpartum depression is high needs of the postnatal must be addressed adequately especially with regard to psychosocial factors.

2017-07-31T16:07:05+0530Copyright (c) 2017 PRIYA S, LATHA VENKATESAN, VIJAYALAKSHMI Khttp://ejournal-tnmgrmu.ac.in/index.php/UJNS/article/view/4020Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching on Breast Self Examination towards knowledge among Adolescent girls studying at selected schools of Tiruttani.2017-07-31T16:07:05+0530sivasankari kuppusamysivasankari.k.09@gmail.com
A quasi experimental study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of video assisted teaching (VAT) on breast self examination (BSE) towards knowledge among 60 adolescent girls selected by convenient sampling technique at Thalapathy K.Vinayakam Mat.Hr.Sec.School, Tiuttani. Educational system expects the nurses to act intelligently and responsibly with regard to clinical and community affairs of which she is a member of professional learning. Selecting the particular strategy for teaching learning experience is based on various reasons : the topic, the group, the content or the issue . Varying the strategies also has the advantage of appealing to all types of learners. Throughout the course it is important to vary the strategies as lecture method followed by the same closure can be very boring. Faculty may create interest among students by implementing better methodologies. One such methodology/ strategy is ‘Workshop’ which is a meeting during which experienced people in responsible positions come together to find solutions to problems that has risen in the recent times. The true essence of Workshop is compete active involvement by each and every participant.
2017-07-31T16:07:06+0530Copyright (c) 2017 Shobana Gangadharan, Latha Venkatesanhttp://ejournal-tnmgrmu.ac.in/index.php/UJNS/article/view/3993NEUTROPENIC DIET2017-07-31T16:07:06+0530PRABHA Japrabha56@yahoo.com
Neutropenia is a condition characterized by a low amount of neutrophils, the white blood cells responsible for fighting off infection. Due to a low neutrophil count, a person's immune system weakens, thus compromising his or her ability to flight off infection. Those with neutropenia must follow a neutropenic, or low-microbial diet. This diet consists of avoiding foods that potentially carry high amounts of bacteria. Cooking foods completely makes sure that all bacteria are destroyed.
2017-07-31T16:07:06+0530Copyright (c) 2017 PRABHA Jhttp://ejournal-tnmgrmu.ac.in/index.php/UJNS/article/view/4030Short communication2017-07-31T16:07:06+0530Aruna Manuelarunfeb07vellaichamy@gmail.comMeet your happy hormone- Endorphins2017-07-31T16:07:06+0530Copyright (c) 2017 Aruna Manuel
